The international break has come as somewhat of a blessing to Manchester United.

On Saturday we saw Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez return from injury but most fans will agree the real problems lie in midfield and at the back and with games against Man City and Liverpool coming up, the prospect of facing either on current form is a daunting one.

United take on Liverpool on October 15th and Sir Alex hopes before then we will two key components of our defence back in Chris Smalling and Nemanja Vidic. Smalling is suffering from a groin injury whilst Vidic has been out since picking up a calf injury in our opening game against West Brom so Sir Alex hopes that they, along with midfielder Tom Cleverley will be back for the crunch games with our rivals as he told MUTV,

“The most important thing is the work they do before the internationals finish.

“We really want to have Vidic and Cleverley doing some really strong work, and Smalling too, that would bring them on to a level that they could play at Anfield.”

But Sir Alex is weary, all three must prove they are fit and fully ready for these games due to the nature and environment,

“You can’t go there with players who are semi-fit or just coming back from injury. You need players who are fully focused and up to speed in terms of fitness and sharpness.”
