United will rue a lapse in concentration tonight against Benfica that sees them needing to get a result in Switzerland in 2 weeks.

Darren Fletcher spoke of the importance of finishing top of the group earlier this week and it seemed his goal would go some way to confirming the #1 spot for United, but a weak clearance from David De Gea and a failed block from Rio Ferdinand allowed Pablo Aimar to get a Benfica equaliser.

The Portuguese side took the lead on 3 minutes after Phil Jones turned into his own net but a header from Dimitar Berbatov pulled United level.

United took the lead when Darren Fletcher put in Patrice Evra’s cross at the second time of asking but just 80 seconds later Benfica were level through Aimar.

The result means United face Basel on December 7th with the possibility of elimination at the end of the night. Gung ho all guns blazing then please!
