With a bowel illness ruling Darren Fletcher out for an undisclosed amount of time, United are left with just Michael Carrick available in the middle of the pitch.

It had been expected that this would force Sir Alex’s hand and he would look to bring in a player or two in January. But this morning Sir Alex stated that he will only delve into the transfer market if one of our long term targets become available.

The likelihood of that happening in January is slim to none with inflated fees as well as team’s reluctance to part with players half way through the season, so Sir Alex may have to look closer to home.

Paul Pogba has long been touted as a future midfield star for United and this season has tasted first team action on more than one occasion. With United’s current injury situation, it appears that he may be set to feature more frequently:

“Pogba is a possibility.

“He is a big, strong lad and a good athlete.

“He is improving and developing well. We have seen the progress he has made since coming to the club and physically, he is better than the rest of last year’s youth team, apart from Zeki Fryers.”

Darren Fletcher not Ferguson. Correct the title 😀

I hope Pogba plays atleast a small part in the game. With Fletch out for the whole season, its vital that small ones be brought forward and given their rightful chance.

However there are still Park, Giggs, Jones left, but only one of these are specialized midfielders, rest are either wingers or full backs so I must say: promote young ones, or sign a decent midfielder 🙂 Fergie knows best though.

Ferguson is a visionary and he probably see’s the potential partnership of Cleverley and Pogba. It depends on Pogba and how he see’s his future. Hopefully he signs a new contract.

I hope Pogba makes the right decision and signs a new contract. I feel like Ferguson will not use him too much while his future is up in the air. Pogba can chase the money if it’s that important, but if he wants a proper career then he should stay with Man Utd. He has great potential but he would be throwing it away, especially if he goes to Italy.

The development of Pogba will probably dictate what Ferguson does in the summer transfer market. I think he might attempt to sign Nicolas Gaitan to add some creativity and guile to our midfield. He will probably be a big investment at around £30 million. Ideally we would not want to have shell out more money for a second midfielder. This is why it is important that Pogba stays and gains some experience this season.

Next season I can see some freshness in the middle with players like Cleverley, Pogba and possibly Gaitan…..along with the experience of Carrick and Fletcher. The midfield might become more important next season, as we will probably let Berbatov and Owen leave in the summer. I think we will look at Gaitan as the playmaker who can play in a 4-5-1 or 4-3-3 formation. This will probably mean not signing another striker, but promoting Will Keane instead. We’ll then have Rooney, Hernandez, Welbeck and Keane as our forwards.
