A goal in each half from Wayne Rooney and Michael Carrick was enough to take Manchester United to the summit of English football this afternoon.

United sit at the top of the Premier League for the first time since October and the win that took us there was was well deserved after Rooney took less than a minute to head United into the lead, before Carrick intercepted a sloppy pass from Joey Barton in his own half and raced forward before finishing past QPR keeper Cerny.

United will be disappointed not to have scored more as Evans wasted a plethora of chances as did Jones, Valencia and Welbeck.

But the 3 points is what was important today, and Sir Alex’s men will be happy to have secured them.
