Transfer speculation will be going into overdrive as the transfer window opens in January.

We currently find ourselves in a precarious position with the number of injuries we have, especially in the midfield area, so it is to be expected that the press will link us with a number of players.

Sir Alex Ferguson has already stated that he won’t be rushed into signing anyone and there is no panic but coach Rene Meulensteen has let slip a player that United could seek to sign if he becomes available.

Christian Eriksen has created a bit of a buzz starring for Ajax and Denmark and his performance against England earlier this year raised his stock further.

Meulensteen has confirmed to Voetbal International he is a player that interests Man United,

“This is a player that is on our radar.

“But that is to be expected. If people weren’t looking, no-one would ever have an opinion on these players.

“It is true that a player like Eriksen would fit our transfer policy. He is being strongly linked with us, but to suggest that we are about to make a move is not true.”

Rene Meulensteen is a great coach but he talks too much about transfers. He said Maarten Stekelenburg was our first choice goalkeeping target, and then said that Sneidjer was the midfielder we wanted. Neither players arrived and I would go as far to say that neither will Eriksen.

He might be doing this under Ferguson’s instructions to throw the wind away from his real targets. It seems that there might be some real interest in Nicolas Gaitan and that a deal could be done in the summer. I wouldn’t be surprised in Ferguson was also looking at Chieck Tiote. Maybe he has created false stories to get more names out there, so no one really has a clue who we want.
