9 years is a long time.

It is especially long in footballing terms, but when you spend 9 years at one of the best football clubs in the world, presumably time flies.

Mikael Silvestre joined Manchester United in 1999 and by the time he left in 2008 he had won 5 League Titles, 1 European Cup, 1 FA Cup, a League Cup and an Intercontinental Cup.

Not a bad haul at all.

Silvestre eventually moved on to Arsenal, so can lay claim to having played under two great managers but who was the best and how good was his time at Manchester United?

Speaking to Sport 360, the former defender mused:

“I spent nine years with United and I believe I was coached by one of the best not only in sport, but in terms of management style.

“Sir Alex is the best and at United I had this chance to play under him and with some of the best players in the world.

“And it was a very good time. We won all the trophies you can win in England and in Europe and it was a successful time for me.”
