Danny Welbeck has been somewhat of a revelation this season.

Having been on loan at Sunderland last term, the young Mancunian has returned to the club and forced his way into Sir Alex’s plans. This of course has meant a bit part role for last season’s break out star Javier Hernandez as well as last season’s top scorer Dimitar Berbatov.

Welbeck’s performances have drawn praise from all quarters and earned him an England call up, as his industrious performances as well as goals have helped keep United in title contention.

On Sunday he grabbed the winner against Arsenal at The Emirates and whilst Gary Neville and Graeme Souness sang his praises he has impressed another former United hero.

Striker Andy Cole has been impressed with the 21 year old as he told the club’s official website:

“I think Danny’s brilliant, and it’s fantastic for his confidence that he’s starting so many big games.

“Javier Hernandez has been injured and has been finding it tough to repeat what he did in his first season. Sometimes your second season is your toughest, I went through that myself.

“Danny has come in and grabbed his chance with both hands and he’s playing very well. He’s playing with confidence and getting goals too.

“You might say I was a bit of an old-fashioned centre forward when I played, in that I always wanted to try and run in behind defenders and get chances that way. To see Danny doing that is great.

“He can play in front of defenders as well, but when he runs in behind them he causes a lot of problems.”
