Sir Alex has hailed Ryan Giggs, claiming his midfielder’s career even outshines that of AC Milan legend Paolo Maldini.

Maldini’s career spanned 24 years and upon retiring aged 40, he had won 7 Serie A titles and 5 European Cups amongst other accolades in his 902 appearances for the Milan club.

Giggs on the other hand has 12 Premier League titles and 2 European Cups but as he prepares to make his 900th appearance for Man United against Ajax tonight, Sir Alex feels Giggs career eclipses Maldini’s:

“Obviously Maldini was a magnificent player but there is a distinction.

“Maldini was a defender and although in his case, he probably put in a lot of running as a full-back, wide players have more work to do.

“It is amazing really. If you go back to Moscow, you are talking almost another 150 games further on.

“He keeps defying age. This season he has just been the same as he was back in Moscow. There is nothing changed from his performance level then as it is today.”
