Rio Ferdinand has praised Ashley Young, after the winger’s brace helped United secure 3 points at White Hart Lane.

Young got off to a great start to the season, being heralded for his performances, but a succession of injuries knocked him out of his stride.

But the England international is back now, looking to get back to his early season form and following a goal midweek against Holland for England he brought his form infront of goal back to club level:

“It is fantastic to see Ashley Young back. He has been injured and it takes you a couple of games to get back into the groove.

“Before his injury, he was flying and now it looks like he is back into form.

“It wasn’t just his goals, it was his all-round work ethic. He was helping Patrice (Evra). He was doubling up and helping and, when you have a dangerous player like Aaron Lennon, that is great.”

It wasn’t just Young that Ferdinand reserved praise for though, as he took time to salute his defensive partner Jonny Evans as well David De Gea in goal behind him:

“When they play two big lads like (Emmanuel Adebayor and Louis Saha), you have to make sure you defend right to come away with anything. Jonny played really well again and the whole team defended well.

“David De Gea is making good strides in goal. He is learning. He wants to be a better keeper and that is vital in a young player.”
