Nemanja Vidic has had much time to cast his eye over Manchester United, having picked up a season ending injury in December.

The Serbian defender is an integral part of the United defence and team, but we have had to make do in his absence after he ruptured cruciate ligaments in his knee against Basel in December.

It was thought United would suffer in his absence but a number of player have stepped up to soften the blow of his absence, and now United find themselves at the top of the league with 9 games to go.

Of course players like Ferdinand and Evans should receive praise for striking up a formidable partnership at the back that has helped keep other teams at bay, but going forward another player is stealing the plaudits and has Vidic’s vote for player of the season.

Antonio Valencia didn’t have the best start to the season but has turned it on when needed and United are reaping the rewards.

Speaking in a live webchat on ManUtd.Com, Vidic said of Valenciat:

“He’s a great player to play with.

“First of all he’s a team player who works hard for the team and makes a difference up front.

“He’s done it so many times this season and it seems like he’s made a step up and improved.

“I would say he is our best player this season.

“There are one or two others, like Wazza’s had a great season and has scored a lot of goals.

“But Antonio has done really well. It’s important he’s fit and plays all the games because we need him at this time of the season.”
