Sir Alex Ferguson has wasted little time in firing back at Patrick Vieira, after the former Arsenal midfielder spoke of Manchester United’s “desperation”.

Speaking to the Daily Telegraph, Vieira claimed United seemed desperate bringing Paul Scholes out of retirement and also made comments about various other facetes of the club.

But Sir Alex used his press conference this morning to address the Man City Football Development Executive’s comments:

“Desperation? Paul Scholes is the best midfielder for the last 20 years.

“Roberto Mancini had a little dig at us a couple of weeks back. We are all going to play our hand. I have plenty of ammunition that way.

“Desperation? On Wednesday they played a player who refused to go on the pitch and the manager had said would never play for them again. What is that?”

The Manchester title race is definitely heating up both on and off field!
