Despite the result, there were positives to be taken from the game against Everton.
Nani looked sharp creating and scoring goals but more impressively was the link up between Wayne Rooney and Danny Welbeck.
The two have been working well together this season, but on Sunday it really impressed with some comparing their partnership to that of Andy Cole and Dwight Yorke.
Yorke and Cole were lethal together and Sir Alex sees similarities in the ‘special’ partnership between Rooney and Welbeck:
“I think last week we saw something really special.
There were a lot of reference to the Yorke and Cole thing and there were similarities. Wayne is 26, Danny is 21 and you would think that for the next few years they can only get better.”
There partnership bodes well for United ahead of Monday’s derby game against City and also England could reap the rewards come June at the European Championships:
“With Danny being fit again and playing consistently with Wayne it has developed.
“I thought Welbeck’s movement was fantastic, he played really well. Attacking wise we were terrific in the second half, really brilliant.”
Welbeck was terrific against Everton and its a shame some of his team-mates let his good work go to waste. Welbeck link up play, strength and hunger was excellent alongside Rooney and Nani. However again it was a shame the rest of the team let them down.
Welbeck has progressed fantastically well this season. The partnership between him and Rooney is strong and getting better. We have three top strikers with Rooney, Welbeck and Hernandez. I could see Owen getting another year because he is a good 4th choice striker that doesn’t expect to play. It will allow Ferguson to focus strengthening on the other area’s of the team.
