Time For Hazard To Show And Prove

Eden Hazard has dominated the transfer window since the English football season ended about two weeks ago.

Both Manchester clubs were the initially linked when the Belgian announced the Premier League as his destination, and he make both sets of fans suffer with his teasing twitter updates and leg pulling comments during interviews.

Chelsea became favorites to sign the Lille playmaker after being crowned European Champion according to his agent and the much awaited news was confirmed on Monday night as the player took to Twitter to announce he would be a member of Roman Abramovich’s empire next season.

Good news for Chelsea fans across the globe as the talent this 21-year-old possesses is unbelievable, but now Hazard has to unleash the talent and deliver for the London club as he has done for Lille in previous years. Transfer sagas are normally created and manipulated by the Press but the way Eden Hazard got entangled in his transfer, tormenting and creating unnecessary arguments between fans of teams involved will be no help to his arrival in the Premier League.

The English Press made him feel on top of the world with their daily reports on the sluggish progress of the transfer, making him one of the Premier League hottest commodities before he had even kicked a ball for his new team.

If Hazard ever thought his partnership with the Press to create unnecessary headlines day in and day out was doing him any good, then he must have been living in wonderland. This is the English Premier League and Belgium international will be under the spotlight –at least for his first season-, reporting every move of his both on and off the pitch.

Adapting to the demands of the Premier League will surely not be easy and with the Press magnifying and updating your every mistake, life doesn’t get much difficult than that, does it?

David De Gea arrived at Manchester United last summer not knowing enough English to even announce his arrival on twitter but the media made sure his confidence was squashed for the first half of the season after a couple of mistakes and at certain points of the season made Sir Alex Ferguson question his decision to make him United’s number one. Such is life in England.

Most fans in the Premier League also saw Eden Hazard’s behavior as sheer arrogance rather than uncertainty. His constant teasing of three top English clubs and his desire to cherry-pick will inevitably mean he is set for a hard time from the fans he mocked with his self-centered egoism. Not in an anti-football kind of way, but the atmosphere in certain Premier League grounds is simply incomparable.

Hazard is a great addition to the Premier League but there will be a lot more than Chelsea looking at the progress he makes. The time for talking is over, it’s reality check time.
