Manchester United have confirmed the signing of Nick Powell on a 4 year deal from Crewe Alexandra.

News began to break yesterday that Manchester United were winning the race for the youngster’s signature, and today United confirmed they have indeed have won the race announcing a deal for the England international.

Powell has passed a medical and joins United on July 1st according to the club’s official website, and Sir Alex has spoken of his delight in acquiring the promising talent:

“I’m delighted he has chosen to come to United. He has a lot to offer and we are all looking forward to working with him.”

Powell is understandably happy too, to be joining Manchester United and called the move ‘a dream come true’:

“It really is a dream come true to be signing for Manchester United. I have had a great time at Crewe and I would like to thank them for helping me to develop as a player over the past 13 years.

“I’m excited about continuing my development with Sir Alex and the world-class players in the squad. The thought of making the step up to the Premier League next season is an exciting prospect. I can’t wait to get started.”

Love people like you. We build for the future as we cannot compete at present. Look at the big names we have been in for and got nowhere. With the Glazers in charge & Barca, Madrid, Chelski & Citeh having more money than us, we have to look to the future. I agree we have some great youth players but we need everyone we can get as we are losing them as well.

A very good signing and I hope he can have an impact this season. I know he is 18 but so was Ronaldo and Rooney when we signed them. The boys ability will judge how much of an impact he can have, but he looks talented. I’m sure he will not be in the first 11 but he can hopefully be part of the squad and play Cup matches.

Chamberlain benefited by staying at Arsenal and training with the first team this season. He was maybe involved in 15 games but is now playing for England. I think Nick Powell will benefit from training with the first team and being involved in around 20-25 games this season. He can have an impact from the bench and at 18 he will be hungry.

Ferguson has released Owen and will sell Berbatov. I think Macheda will also be on his way. We are not going to sign a new striker. Kagawa will see a change in formation to probably 4-2-3-1 formation. We have Rooney, Welbeck and Hernandez all capable of playing the lone striker role. Powell will give us an extra striker option, but also the option of playing the number 10 role earmarked for Kagawa.

I hope Ferguson will continue the squad strengthening and sign Luka Modric. I have no doubt he would be the key signing that our team needs more than most. We will have to push the boat out to around £28-32 million but we need him. We should also get someone like Nathaniel Clyne as he will give us another option in the full back department. Leigthon Baines will be expensive for a left back in my opinion.
