“He is a sought-after player because he is still young”

There are differing fortunes ahead for twins Rafael and Fabio Da Silva this summer, with Rafael set to extend his deal whilst Fabio looks to be joining QPR on loan.

Rafael has been away on international duty with Brazil since the end of the season and despite losing his place in the team following a poor showing against Everton, he remains a key part of United’s plans for the future.

His agent Cassiano Pereira told Estadao ESPN that his client intends to sign a new deal until 2016 at ‘the club that opened the door to Europe’ for him:

“Rafael is very happy to stay at Manchester United, who are one of the giants of world football and always play in Europe’s biggest competitions.

“Manchester United are the club that opened the door to Europe for him. He is loved, respected and has prestige at the club.

“We are all very happy that he is renewing his contract.”

Fabio on the other hand will seek first team football away from Old Trafford for the season. With his path into the first team blocked by Patrice Evra, Fabio needs games under his belt to aid his development and Loftus Road has been sounded out as an ideal place to do so. Pereira continued:

“Fabio is a promising player and he needs to play. Because of that, Alex Ferguson suggested that he be loaned out to get more experience.

“He is a sought-after player because he is still young, and we think that his transfer to QPR was the best decision at the time.

“We received some offers from Germany and Portugal, but he preferred to stay in England to remain in touch with the country’s football style and so that he would not have a problem to adapt to it when he returned to United.”
