Contrary to last night’s reports Manchester United have not signed Sao Paulo’s Lucas Moura, but he is a player we are pursuing, something confirmed by Sir Alex this morning.
This is the second time in a matter of days Sir Alex has gone public on a transfer target, having confirmed on Friday that he is interested in Arsenal’s Robin Van Persie.
According to the British press United delegates have been in Brazil trying to snap up the exciting young Brazilian but have seen their advances rebuffed by his club.
Last night The Daily Mirror claimed that a deal had been done between the two clubs, but Sao Paulo’s president Juvenal Juvêncio and Moura’s agent Vagner Ribeiro both denied Moura had been sold to Manchester United.
Speaking this morning from his Shanghai presser, for the second leg of United’s pre season tour, Sir Alex stated:
“It’s not correct, we haven’t reached an agreement for the player. We’ve shown an interest but until such time a we get a deal agreed we can’t say he’s our player.
“We’ve signed two players in the summer: Kagawa and Powell, we think they both have fantastic potential.
“At this moment we’re looking at other options in terms of bringing other players in. We’re not lying on our backsides doing nothing. We’re trying hard to bring other players to the club.”
