Davide Petrucci was given a place in the starting line up of the Manchester United team that faced Shanghai Shenhua yesterday, and he impressed in his 45 minute appearance.

Last week Kiko Macheda spoke highly of the reserve team captain, and claimed he was a great player. Petrucci clearly has the attributes to go on and be one displaying a class and intelligence in his performance yesterday.

The Italian went close himself, with the Shenhua keeper sprawling to shepard the ball past the post and also picked out Nick Powell with a sublime pass, only for the new signing to put his shot wide.

Having impressed at reserve level last year, it remains to be seen what this season holds for Petrucci. A step up into the first team whilst possible is unlikely, so perhaps a loan spell is on the cards.

Don’t see why he will be loaned out. If there is a place in the squad for Powell hen one should be made for Petrucci. He has paid his dues coming through the ranks and moving to United from Italy was a big risk for him. The last thing I want to see is his kid being sold like his compatriot Rossi. Hopefully UTD won’t waste his talents. Him, Jones and Powell are the future.

and THAT was impressive ?! my god, the standard of the quality has drastically declined…so he was impressive for passing to the nearest man and moving against some china team…jesus

Sorry mate absolutely forgot you were a first team player with tons of experience playing in front of thousands under your belt!

Good performances in both games but you can tell he’s nervous or anxious ( compare to ryan or jese who’s been at united almost all their lives) and doesn’t have the confidence to take on his opponent unless it’s instinctive. great player in the making no doubt.

A loan spell is needed for him next season. I would suggest sending him and Macheda to Hull with Steve Bruce if we can.

great to see him always dropping deep and eager to get the ball. seems to have decent work rate and dedication, not to mention good ability to pick out a pass (especially the through-ball for brady). a raw talent which needs more seasoning but definitely one to keep an eye on!
