Shinji Kagawa hopes to emulate ‘the best player Asia has produced’ Park Ji Sung and enjoy a long and fruitful career at Manchester United.

Departing this summer for QPR, Park enjoyed a successful 7 years at Old Trafford after joining from PSV. The energetic midfielder lifted 4 Premier League trophies and the European Cup once amongst other trinkets in his spell in the north west and Kagawa hopes he can match the South Korea.

Kagawa hasn’t made a bad start, after impressing against Ajax Cape Town, he shone against Shanghai Shenhua and got his name onto the scoresheet, a goal that ended up being the winning goal. But this is just the start of things to come as he told The Daily Mirror:

“This is only the beginning for me.

“But Park Ji-sung is the best player Asia has ever produced – there’s no doubt about that.

“He played regularly for United for a long time and I can’t be sure how long it will take me to establish myself in the team like him. But I will always work hard to do so.

“Watching him play for United motivated me a lot. I began to truly believe Asian players could play in big clubs.

“I was expecting we could help each other and play together at United. It’s a shame that he left.

“But, like Park, I will focus every day on training and do my best to stay here a long time.”
