Manchester United have completed the signing of Robin Van Persie and at last put to bed one of the summer’s longest transfer sagas.

With just a year left on his deal, Van Persie confirmed his intention to leave Arsenal at the start of July, and thus a tussle between Manchester United, Manchester City and Juventus for the striker’s signature ensued.

Slowly and slowly both City and Juventus fell by the wayside as United emerged as the strongest candidates for his signature.

Last week Sir Alex Ferguson complained that Arsenal were holding out, trying to make a deal with any other club but United, but  on Wednesday night it emerged that united and Arsenal had come to an agreement on the transfer of the 29 year old striker.

Last night the Premier League top scorer underwent a medical at Manchester’s Bridge Water Hospital and now the club has confirmed the 4 year deal has been completed in time for Van Persie to feature against Everton.
