Manchester United have confirmed the signing of 23 year old left back Alexander Buttner from Vitesse Arnhem.

News broke on Sunday night that United were looking at bringing in the Dutchman as back up for Patrice Evra and he was quickly whisked to Manchester for a medical. Having completed his medical and agreed personal terms, the deal was confirmed today by United on the club’s website.

The deal is thought to be in the region of €5m and will run until 2017.

Sir Alex Ferguson spoke highly of Buttner on completion of the deal saying:

“Alexander is one of the best young left backs in Europe and we’re delighted to sign him. He’s someone we’ve been watching for a while now.

“He gives us some really exciting options in that position.”

Whilst Buttner couldn’t mask his delight saying:

“Joining Manchester United is one of the best days of my life.

“It’s a team I have admired for many years now and I can’t wait to join my teammates and play my part in helping the club be successful.”

I’ve been told that he will be joined by the young French defender Kurt Zouma this week. Man Utd have been negotiating and are close to agreeing a deal for £7.5 million, which will rise to £9.5 million. He is a 17 year defender and is highly rated. He is physically powerful like Micah Richards. Ferguson rates the boy highly and doesn’t want to miss out. QPR have expressed interest but Man Utd have moved to ensure they don’t miss out.

The reason Ferguson has gone for him is partly based on a decision made over Phil Jones. Apparently a meeting took place whereby Ferguson and Jones agreed he would develop as a midfielder. Ferguson and the coaching staff agreed that Jones would be an asset as a more box to box midfielder. He has the physical attributes and the engine to be a success. It is the reason Ferguson has not signed a midfielder. If Jones was fit then he would have played yesterday against Everton.

Hi Adam, I (we) would like to know where you got such important info from because that sounds great but mate don’t go playing with our emotions. I’m sure we all take football seriously and live, eat and breath it coz if that news is true then that’s great news for both Jones and UTD.
