Having lost the title on goal difference last season, Ryan Giggs believes the signing of Robin Van Persie gives Manchester United the upper hand if a similar situation was to occur this time around.

Van Persie has now hit 4 goals in 3 appearances and all signs point to him continuing his remarkable goal scoring record despite being at a new club.

His hat trick last weekend spared Manchester United’s blushes as they came from behind to beat newly promoted Southampton 3-2, and he could have had more but saw a second half penalty saved.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, Ryan Giggs has hailed his ‘world class’ team mate:

“We lost it on goal difference, so hopefully the goals that he’s bringing, if it does come down to goal difference, then we’ll have the upper hand this time.

“The goals that he’s scored, and his performances in general, it’s obvious he’s a world-class player.

“The manager’s policy over the last 10, 15 years is to buy young players and develop them, the likes of Cristiano, the likes of Wayne.

“But Robin’s a readymade world-class star and is proven. I think he’s shown that in the first few games and I’m sure there’s more to come.”
