VIDEO: Fletcher Returns As Carrick Earns 3 Points In Europe

Darren Fletcher returned to first team action, as Manchester United took a hard earned 3 points in their first European game of the season.

Michael Carrick’s goal in the 7th minute was enough to get United’s campaign off the ground but the margin should have been wider as Nani’s tame penalty was saved in the second half.

There were a number of penalty shouts throughout the game but referee Wolfgang Stark didn’t seem to want to point to the spot, leaving both Antonio Valencia and Yilmaz feeling aggrieved.

Whilst the win wasn’t the most convincing, with David De Gea having to pull off two big saves in succession to keep United in the lead, one big positive is the return of Darren Fletcher who was given a 10 minute run out. Having appeared for United’s u21 side a number of times, a first 1st team appearance since December is promising considering his career was in limbo following a bowel condition.
