Having been name dropped by Rio Ferdinand as one of the new faces he would like to see turn out in the Capital One Cup, Jesse Lingard hopes Sir Alex Ferguson considers him when picking his squad for the game against Newcastle tomorrow.

The 19 year old has been making waves for United’s reserves/u21s and was nominated for the reserve team player of the year award at the end of last season for the good work he had done.

So impressive was Lingard last season, Sir Alex selected him to go on pre season tour with the first team this summer where he continued to standout.

With a new season underway and having scored in the 4-1 win against Bury last week, the diminutive attacker is hoping that he is in the running for a place in the team that faces Newcastle at Old Trafford as he told ManUtd.Com:

“There will probably be some younger lads involved against Newcastle and we’ll have to wait and see if the boss calls me up, hopefully he will!”

Sir Alex usually mixes youth with experience on occasions like this and Lingard is looking forward to turning out with some more senior United players as he did during the summer, and feels having them there to guide younger players through the game will be essential:

“You need the experience of the older players to be there with you and help you along the way.

“Newcastle are a strong team as well, so it should be a good game.”
