Sir Alex Ferguson is pleased with the start Shinji Kagawa has made to his United career, but would like the Japanese playmaker to make one slight adjustment to his game to become a more potent threat.

Kagawa has impressed since joining United, showing glimpses of what the future holds when he has fully settled in at Old Trafford and Sir Alex feels he is adapting well to his new surroundings:

“We’re very pleased with Shinji. Adapting to English football isn’t easy but bit by bit he’s getting down to that part.”

2 goals in 7 starts is a decent enough return for the Japanese attacker but Sir Alex feels he can improve on this with one slight tweak as Kagawa revealed:

“Don’t face the goal with your back, but move your body so you have a short way to the goal. Shape your body so you are facing the stands.

“I have to face the goal or I won’t be a threat.”

The Premier League is known for being physical and Kagawa himself feels that he can make his job easier by improving his physique:

“I’ve realised that I need to limber up and strengthen my body trunk.”

I’ve been impressed in Kagawa and I believe when he fully adapts he will be a top player. It always takes time and it would have been a culture shock arriving here. I hope by November he is settled in England and the Premier League style and we start to see his influence grow. The diamond formation that Ferguson introduced could be great for Kagawa in terms of playing with Rooney and Van Persie.

Kagawa will need to learn and adapt to playing in different roles but he is intelligent. I do believe he might find himself closer to the tip of the diamond in time, alongside Rooney.
