Rio Ferdinand has blasted the press, claiming they have twisted his words after many outlets claimed he was on the verge of turning down a new deal at Old Trafford.
The center back, who turned 34 last week, could be offered a new deal as his current one is set to expire and after Sir Alex backed Ferdinand playing into his late 30s, Rio stated in Inside United:
“It is always good to hear the manager say things like that.
“But you have to take every week and month as it comes.
“The best thing I can do is to look at it at Christmas, and then again in the summer, to see how I’m feeling and go from there.
“But hearing the manager say things like that definitely puts the spring back in your step.”
Some how this was read by a number of papers that Ferdinand was reluctant to sign a new deal at the club he’s called home since 2002, so Ferdinand took to Twitter this morning to set the record straight.
Asked by a fan what was atually going on, Ferdinand tweeted:
