20121208-105311.jpgWhilst he may be at odds with Sir Alex, Roy Keane would be a staple in any Manchester United team according to Sir Bobby Charlton.

Keane took over as captain of United in 1997 when Eric Cantona retired and held the title until he left in 2005. In that time he became the club’s most successful armband wearer winning 4 Premier League titles and a European Cup amongst other things.

Although he left under a dark cloud, Keane’s influence can not be denied and Sir Bobby told The Guardian that he regrets not having played with the Irishman:

“There are certain players that are talismen and when they go on to a football field they take everybody with them.

“Roy Keane just had that thing. He could change the game with the timing of one tackle. I have played with a large number of good players and have played against many, but when you ask me which would I have liked to play with it’s Roy Keane I miss out there.”

  1. Terry says:

Roy Keane was an incredible player. I would say he was almost two players in one. We really dominated English football at the time and Keane was a massive part of that. The best midfielder in the Premier League era. We are never going to replace him unfortunately. The curse of having great players is that they cannot be replaced. We will have the same problem soon with Scholes and Giggs.
