Carrick is enjoying his new song

Michael Carrick is enjoying his new song, comparing his talents with those of midfielder maestro Paul Scholes.

United’s away fans belted out the ode to Carrick continuously in this weekend’s win against QPR, singing:

“Oh oh oh it’s Carrick you know, hard to believe it’s not Scholes”

to the tune of Pilot’s hit ‘Magic’.

The midfielder has now begun to received the plaudits his efforts have been demanding for over a year, with a return to the England set up as well as being singled out by pundits for his contribution throughout the season.

And Carrick is enjoying the comparison with partner Scholes, telling Sky Sports the veteran is ‘as good as it gets’:

“Scholesy is a legend, so I don’t know whether it is tongue-in-cheek but it is a nice song and I will take that.

“It is always good to be compared to players like that. Paul is as good as it gets and has been throughout his career.

“To train alongside him and have the chance to learn every day has been something I have tried to make the most of.

“It has helped me bring my own game on whether he knows it or not and that has been a big help.”
