With Man City capitulating against Tottenham on Sunday, the stage is set for Manchester United to reclaim the Premier League title with a win against Aston Villa tonight.

After the disappointment of last season, Sir Alex Ferguson’s side can win a record extending 20th league title if they can pick up 3 points against Paul Lambert’s side. It also presents Sir Alex’s side with an interesting opportunity in the following game, as United travel to the Emirates to take on Arsenal.

In 2007 Chelsea were forced to give Manchester United a guard of honour as United had wrapped up the league prior to the game at Stamford Bridge, and the same is set to happen on Sunday but with one twist, the United team that will be hailed upon their entrance to the pitch will contain one time Arsenal hero Robin Van Persie.

Jack Wilshere has already spoken of his dismay at potentially having to do so, but Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has claimed that his side will show the former Arsenal hotshot the due respect when he returns to his old stomping ground:

“As a champion or not as a champion it [Van Persie’s reception] is exactly the same. We will respect the players that have played for us a long time as we always have done and treat them well before and after the game.”

With Robin Van Persie leaving North London in search of silverware this will be a bitter pill for Arsenal fans to swallow, Piers Morgan has already showed signs of breaking down at the prospect of it, so despite Wenger’s assertions don’t expect a good reception for the champions on Sunday!
