With Sir Alex’s departure confirmed and David Moyes being lined up to replace him, The Daily Mail are reporting that Wayne Rooney is looking for a way out and has asked for a transfer.

Daily Mail correspondent and presenter of the Sky Sport’s Sunday Supplement Neil Ashton tweeted:

“Wayne Rooney asks Manchester United for transfer. Chelsea make their move. More in tmrw’s Mail and on Mail Online.”

Daniel Taylor added to this with a series tweets:

“Stories about Wayne Rooney asking for a transfer are correct. Asked to see Ferguson two weeks ago, request was rejected.”

“Rooney now made two transfer requests in last 3 years at #MUFC. Feels a bit ‘and in other news’ today but still fairly huge.”

“Also makes a mockery – again – of all those pledges of loyalty in the face of newspaper stories about his future.”

This adds credence to yesterday night’s reports that Rooney was angling for a move to Bayern Munich.

If true this would be the second time that Rooney has asked to leave and with his history with Moyes would make sense. This is the Daily Mail’s back page tomorrow:

Let him go and then he’ll see how overrated he is in front of the Munich superstars. Sell him and bring in either Bale, Lewandowski or Ronaldo!!
