Manchester United are set to be boosted by the return of midfielder Darren Fletcher, according to reports.
The news outlet of sporting goods shop Sports Direct claim Fletcher will be available for selection at the start of the new season having had to miss the majority of this season as well as the season prior with a chronic bowl condition.
Sporting Direct News claim Fletcher, 29, has been working extensively with coaches at Carrington to improve his fitness ahead of his return and claim to have confirmation from a club spokesperson that Fletcher will be included in new manager David Moyes’ squad when the Premier League resumes in August.
As with his return last summer, Fletcher will have to be handled delicately in order to ensure that he remains fit and healthy as well getting the best out of the former Scotland captain.
Can’t see him getting in the starting 11 again. This injury has ruined his career he will be sold next summer.
FANTASTIC! How great is this news! I’ve always been a big fan of Fletcher, gritty and tough tackling but wins the ball a bit more than Scholes or Carrick. But he also has magnificent touch and keeps possession of the ball so well. He’s good in tight spaces and can ping a decent 40 yard ball. And personally, I don’t see fitness being any hinderance. Last season when he came back on, his first Premier League game was like he’d been playing in the side all along. He brought the best out of Cleverley and Anderson, who had a bit more attacking freedom as Fletch held down midfield. He’ll be like a new experienced signing ala Paul Scholes last season. And it also means no need for Fellaini! Any signing stopping that blunder from coming to United is very welcomed!
we dont need him any more..let him quite football and face his health
Fletcher was solid & consistent, but not brilliant even during his peak, so a returning Fletcher who hasnt played regularly & well at the top level for several years, and either still has a debilitating illness (one my brother has too so I know a lot about it), or if it’s gone now then he’s had major surgery to have his whole bowel removed, will never return to even that previous solid level, and if the disease hasnt been removed then it could return at any moment meaning he can’t be relied on too much.
Either way he will just be taking up a space & wages in an area of the pitch that a club of United’s standing needs to address massively to improve given what’s there currently is well below the other areas of the pitch, and below what is needed to beat the very best sides in Europe. Even domestically every game we play v City we get dominated in the centre of the park (usually as we have a 40 year old former left winger playing there v someone like Yaya Toure), and City have still gone and strengthened that area with Fernandinho. We urgently need to sort the central midfield, and a returning Fletcher is a distraction not a solution.
