United Have Painted Themselves Into A Corner

Nani

It is being reported that Galatasaray have pulled out of the running to sign Manchester United’s Nani, after failing to reach an agreement over a transfer fee with the club.

Last week LigTV reported that the winger had chosen the Turkish side over moneybags Monaco and that United had agreed a fee with Monaco, but today’s reports claim their failure to agree a fee with United has caused the Turkish champions to break off all talks with United.

With just a year left to run on his contract it is believed that Galatasaray had hoped to sign Nani on the cheap, bidding in the region of £6m but United were hoping for a fee closer to £10m. Galatasaray’s offer is particularly offensive considering Zenit were prepared to part with £25m just 12 months ago.

United are now left in a jam, you get the impression that the winger has little to no future at the club so there are two choices – let him go fro free next summer or bend and sell him for less than they figured to get for him this summer (or sneakily hand him a new deal and let him go for full price next summer!).

Whilst Nani hasn’t been up to scratch this season, even with one year of his contract he is worth more than £6m so United shouldn’t allow themselves to be held over a barrel. At the price being offered (and the price United are seeking) we would be better off keeping him.

It’s no secret that I’m a fan of Nani and a fresh start under a new manager, with a full pre season under his belt could do wonders for him. It’s not outlandish to call Nani our best winger, and I think it’s more likely that his lack of game time this season was down to his contract dispute rather than ability, especially given the fact that he was picked in games against Real Madrid and Chelsea in the FA Cup amongst others.

Whilst he tends to be more frustrating than pleasing we are well aware of what he is capable of and I’d hate to think that we would be getting rid of a player as dangerous as that for just £6m.

It is unclear what Moyes’ plans are for Nani, he may also want him gone too but even he will realise selling for under £10m is ridiculous.
