Have United come reached an agreement to sign Ezequiel Garay?

Having completed the signing of Guillermo Varela yesterday, Manchester United may be on the verge of securing a second summer signing.

According to The Daily Mail, Manchester United have reached a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ with Portuguese outfit Benfica to sign former Real Madrid defender Ezequiel Garay for £17m. Taking their story from Portuguese paper The Record, the figure was said to have been agreed as far back as March.

The Argentinian has been heavily linked with Manchester United this season with United sending scouts to watch him numerous occasions, and would see United finally wrap up a move for the center back.

Incidentally The Mail quickly pulled the story from their website, perhaps due to the lack of credibility.

Whilst United’s first choice defensive pairing of Vidic and Ferdinand are getting on, there is more than enough cover at the club with the position being one of United’s strongest, making this a strange signing if indeed true.
