Thiago scored a first half hat trick

Spanish paper Sport are reporting that there may be a resolution to the Thiago Alcantara transfer saga soon after Manchester United tweaked their offer to allay the midfielder’s fears.

The paper claim that having seen the ill fated transfer of former Barcelona starlet Giovani Dos Santos to Tottenham, Thiago wanted a clause put into his contract that allows him to leave next summer for €20m if he doesn’t play a certain amount of games.

Thiago’s problems with Barcelona stem from the fact that he doesn’t see enough playing time at the Nou Camp starting just 15 La  Liga games last season and with this in mind, he is looking to ensure he doesn’t find himself in a similar predicament at his new club.

Thiago’s lack of game time last season saw him fall out of the Spanish national team and with the World Cup next summer, he has designs of making the trip to Brazil so needs to ensure that he is given the game time to ensure that he figures in Vicente del Bosque’s plans.

Initially United were said to be reluctant to add the clause to his contract but with the player insisting, and the deal in the balance, United are said to be ready to add to play ball. It’s said that Thiago is set to triple his wages with a move to United, but the financial aspect of the deal is only part of the appeal of a move to United.

In all honesty Thiago shouldn’t have any problem reaching an appearance target. With Scholes’ retirement, Fletcher’s health problem, Anderson seemingly incapable of remaining fit for a whole season and some questioning the quality of tom Cleverley, midfield is undoubtedly United’s weakest area. The side has been calling out for reinforcements for quite a while, and the Spaniard should be the solution.

Has the midfield really needed attention for sometime? 3 champions league finals, 5 premier league winners and several runners up (2nd) says otherwise. Now that Scholes has properly retired there could be a position avaiable. But Anderson was injury free and training fit for most of last season. He was match fit most of the season but didn’t play because of technicalities, like Cleverly was the season before last. Clevers stepped up well enough to become the most important addition to our midfield for a long time, and now it’s Anderson’s turn to do the same. Positions are available, the lad is match fit for pre-season and is ready to step up without delay and become our much needed midfield superstar.

For the above reasons we won’t be getting Tiago of Barcelona, it’s just summer time transfertarget talk fr the newspapers – they need something to talk about don’t they!!
