Wayne Rooney has flown home from Asia after the striker after injuring his hamstring in training.

David Moyes and Nemanja Vidic had both said that Rooney had been looking sharp in training so the news will come as a blow to Moyes and his preparations to the upcoming season.

A statement released by United this evening said:

Following a scan this evening on a hamstring injury sustained in training, it has been decided that Wayne Rooney should return home immediately for further assessment and rehabilitation.

It is anticipated he will be unavailable for selection for a month.

Whilst an injury normally means a player can’t be sold, it’s hard not to think that this ‘injury’ will spell the end of Rooney’s career at Old Trafford following the increased speculation over his future.

David Moyes was less than convincing when asked if Rooney wanted to be at the club and I, like many fans, think this ‘injury’ is a smokescreen with him flying back to England allow for any possible business to be concluded.
