Gary Neville feels the team is evolving

Former Manchester United star Gary Neville believes that whilst David Moyes has to manage the squad he has in order to  accommodate everyone, a new central midfield signing should be a priority for the new United manager.

United are seeing their options dwindle after a number of reported target look like they have slipped the net, the latest being Thiago Alcantara who the press believe is on his way to Bayern Munich to reunite with former manager Pep Guardiola.

Uncertainty about Darren Fletcher’s health, uncertainty about Anderson in general as well as the retirement of Paul Scholes means reinforcements are needed and Neville, doing a Q&A with The Guardian , backed this up:

“Last year Michael Carrick was outstanding, playing virtually every game. Paul Scholes may have gone but Tom Cleverley played well in there, and they have Anderson, Ryan Giggs still there. What Sir Alex Ferguson was great at was sitting back and saying to himself: ‘OK, if I buy a couple of midfield players, what about Tom Cleverley? I need to get Phil Jones into my team so, if Rafael is playing right-back, I’ve got [Nemanja] Vidic, [Rio] Ferdinand, [Chris] Smalling and [Jonny] Evans at the back, where am I going to get him a game?’

You always have to weigh up the damage it does to your squad to sign players unnecessarily. In saying that, I’m pretty certain it’s an area Moyes will look at because of the retirement of Scholes and the heavy reliance upon Carrick. A couple of injuries and he would look very light in there.”

Neville also spoke on the challenge that lays ahead of Moyes, as well as what the future holds for Wayne Rooney and the rest of the interview can be read here.

Thiago Alcantra, pls u have to grow up! Stop this nonsense by allowing people who call themselves good coach to deceive you. If the so called Guardiola loves u as he claimed,he should allow u to join Manchester United. I can see Guardiola as an enemy of progress, avoid him.

  6. Ignatius says:

You don’t become the best coach by making sure u buy the best players on earth,u groom young players as a good coach. With the size of Bayern Munich, even a lame man can take the Club to a Champions league glory. Mr.Guardiola wants to win the Champions league without facing tough competition. I can also win the Champions league with this present Bayern team. CLUB OWNERS: Be Wise!

Mr Neville you are a legend for us and now a great football commentator. I love standing up and protecting my beloved club, Man Utd, but only when its right and not wrong. The harsh facts for Man Utd management and for its pundits are that while our rivals Chelsea, City, Real, Barcelona, Spurs, PSG and Monaco are all in the process to strengthen their already strong sqauds, Man Utd and its team management were (sitting on their 20th title laurels), and enjoying their summer breaks. Now the team and mangement are away in the far east to enjoy more sun shine and make money for the club. Gary, I have the utmost respect for you, but please don’t cover-up Man Utd’s failer or shall I say arrogance in the transfer market!

  8. Charles says:

Gary, you are a legend of ManUtd, but seriously I would appreciate it if u stop saying stuffs like that, when infact Manutd is loosing out in d tranfer market I mean luk @ Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Barcelona, Real Madrid with great players within their ranks and are still active in d transfer market.
