Sky Sports News are reporting that Manchester United’s executive vice chairman has left Australia, flying back to Manchester to take care of ‘urgent transfer business’.
Whilst there was no indication of what the transfer(s) in question were, with the developments surrounding Wayne Rooney it is likely that Woodward’s departure concerns the striker.
It is believed that Rooney took umbrage with comments from Woodward last week, where the man that replaced David Gill confirmed that despite having just 2 years left on his deal, Rooney would not be offered a new deal as yet, hastening Rooney’s desire to leave Old Trafford.
Whilst many believe that Rooney is the subject of Woodward’s trip back, United have been linked with a number of players in recent weeks and there is a possibility that he could be returning to Manchester to tie up one of the deals that Moyes said were progressing well last week.
