Danny Welbeck

Manchester United boss David Moyes has outlined the importance of striker Danny Welbeck, and believes that the youngster will rediscover his scoring touch this season and help show that Manchester United’s Premier League odds
are longer than they should be.

Welbeck found the net 12 times in his breakthrough season at Old Trafford, but last season limped to just 2 goals. Whilst other aspects of his game meant he was a constant feature whenever United had a big game, his lack of goals was concerning.

As United kicked off their pre season tour last week, the England international missed a number of chances provoking a number of outbursts from fans but Moyes isn’t concerned by the Welbeck’s lack of goals and has back him to come good:

“When I arrived I was told how important Danny has been and how important he will be, and we’re doing everything we can, we’re giving him the opportunity just now because he’s got the chance to get games just now, we’re hoping his goals come as well.

“He had a couple of chances the other night, but it would be worse if he wasn’t getting any chances, and hopefully he’ll start taking one or two of them and it will start to give him the confidence he needs to go on a run of scoring plenty of goals.

“I spoke to him quite a bit yesterday and I mentioned the harder you work, you tend to find that the luck comes your way and if you keep working hard at it, continue the practise, and try to improve his finishing , and making sure that when he does get chances he feels confident about taking them.

“But I think his work (rate) has never been in question and that’s always what I’ve been told and I’ve just said to him ‘look, I am sure it will change for you. I’ve got no doubt if you keep doing the right things.”

With Rooney potentially leaving this summer, we will need Welbeck as well as Javier Hernandez to be on top of their game. There is a good chance if he does leave a replacement will be brought in but with (a fit) Rooney adding more than just goals to the team, both will need to be firing on all cylinders this season.
