Having grabbed a brace against an A League Allstar side in an impressive fashion, Manchester United starlet Jesse Lingard is hoping to kick on and break into the first team this season.

Bar a somewhat brief loan to Leicester, Lingard has been an ever present member of Warren Joyce’s title winning u21 side scoring 8 and creating 7 goals in his 27 appearances and his showings whilst on tour will have further enhanced his reputation with the new manager.

After a solid showing in Bangkok last week, Lingard stole the show yesterday with a net buster to cap off a brace in United’s 5-1 win. With this in mind, Lingard is hoping that Moyes will call upon him at some point during the season:

“This is the hardest club side to in the world to break in at, normally they send you out on loan and then you have to come back and bide your time.

“Hopefully I can come straight through. I believe in myself and I’ve got to start to believe in myself more day in and day out.”

In the same game Danny Welbeck also grabbed a brace, and Lingard is looking to players like him and Tom Cleverley as an example of breaking into the first team:

“I’ve known Danny [Welbeck] and Tom [Cleverley] since they were young as well and they were at United at my age and they’ve pushed on and progressed.

“Hopefully I can follow their footsteps. I’m trying to integrate myself into the first team very slowly. I’m maturing now and it’s coming together so it’s good.”
