Fellaini

Everton are likely to hold on to Marouane Fellaini this summer, after Roberto Martinez revealed the clause in his contract that would have allowed him to leave for £23.5m has expired.

The towering midfielder had been linked with United after the club’s efforts to sign Cesc Fabregas came to nothing, with most believing the player was interested with linking up with the manager that brought him to England in 2008.

Last week The Guardian claimed the two clubs had opened talks in an attempt to reach an agreement for his transfer but Martinez was quick to deny this.

But with the release clause in the Belgian’s contract having expired 2 weeks ago, much to the relief of Everton boss Martinez, it is likely that Fellaini will be staying at Goodison Park:

‘Marouane had a clause that was very straightforward, but that finished on July 31.

‘Everyone was a bit expectant. We now focused on adding to the squad.’

Amidst reports of further interest in Cesc Fabregas, you wonder why Moyes was reluctant to move for his former player as he seemed a player that the club could have realistically signed.
