Daniele De Rossi has rejected the chance to join United

David Moyes’ attempts to reinforce Manchester United’s midfield have taken yet another knock after Roma rejected a €12m bid for combative midfielder Daniele De Rossi.

With the transfer window closing on Monday, it appears United have stepped up their efforts to bring in new faces; last night a €30m bid for Athletic Bilbao’s Ander Herrera was turned down by the Basque club, who are holding out for the €36m that will trigger his release clause and today reports from Italy claim that United have suffered the same fate pursuing De Rossi.

Corriere claim that United made an approach for the Roma player but De Rossi, who was heavily linked with Chelsea earlier this summer, has turned down the chance to join United. The report claims that De Rossi had become disillusioned with life in the Italian capital and had United made the approach earlier they could have signed him but now De Rossi has taken to new manager Rudi Garcia.

De Rossi claimed that he would not be leaving the club whilst on tour in America and appears to be standing by that vow.

As an aside, Corriere attempt to validate their story by claiming that United sought a reference on De Rossi, none other than former England manager Fabio Capello and he greenlighted United’s approach.
