It could be a case of history repeating itself, as the Daily Mail are reporting that Juventus are stepping up their pursuit of Adnan Januzaj.
The Belgian – Albanian’s contract expires this summer and with a new deal yet to be agreed, Juventus are ready to press ahead with plans to sign the 18 year old.
The paper reports:
“Sportsmail understands word has reached Januzaj’s agent that Juventus coach Antonio Conte wants to adds the 18-year old to his title-winning squad and is eager to begin contract negotiations as soon as possible.
“That could be in a matter of months, unless United can come up with a package that is acceptable to the Belgian teenager and persuades him to end a deadlock over his future that has lasted since April.”
This would be a recurrence of events a few summers ago when Juventus slid in to sign French international Paul Pogba from under United’s nose after the club failed to get him to sign a new deal.
Despite United’s best attempt Pogba moved to Turin and has since gone on to shine for the Italian champions.
Januzaj spoke recently about enjoying his time at Old Trafford, and having made his league debut against Crystal Palace this month it is thought that he will figure in Moyes’ plans this season.
A new deal for Januzaj has long been discussed, but it is not known what has caused the hold up in the two parties reaching an agreement.
Pogba claimed he didn’t feel Sir Alex trusted in him but Moyes has already taken a different approach with Januzaj including him in the first team and further playing time would further reassure the youngster that his future lies at Old Trafford.
