Despite manager Michael Reschke insisting that he is not for sale, Manchester United are ready to spend big to secure the signature of Bayer Leverkusen’s Lars Bender.

David Moyes has reportedly been given a war chest in the hopes that he can reverse United’s fortunes, and whilst Ander Herrera and Leighton Baines have been identified as potential targets, The Daily Star believe Moyes will attempt to rival Arsenal for the German international’s signature.

Bender has been linked with United before, and the club’s official website went as far as writing a mock scouting report on the midfielder where they claimed:

“Bender would be a very good addition to the squad. Being just 23 years of age he could still develop in one of the best midfielders in the world. He can play in three different positions which is a huge plus point, and so United could use him as a right back or as creative midfielder or as an anchor man in our Champions League games away from home.”

Moyes has actively pursued midfielders in the hopes of shoring up United’s weak spot. A £20m move for Bender would go some way to improving United, but with Arsenal’s growing German contingent advising Wenger to move for the midfielder, United may miss out on the 24 year old.
