Real Sociedad midfielder Markel Bergara has furiously labelled Ashley Young a cheater after the winger went down under his challenge to win a penalty in Manchester United’s 0-0 draw with Sociedad on Tuesday.
Whilst contact was made, Young’s theatrically tumble has drawn the ire of fans as well as Bergara and the fact Young has previous hasn’t helped his case.
A few seasons ago, Young tumbled under the challenger of Shaun Derry earning United a penalty and Derry a red card and the same thing happened this season to Kagisho Dikgacoi as United took on Crystal Palace.
Now Bergara has spoken out against Young claiming that he knew of United player’s history:
‘I barely touched him and he dived. The truth is that he cheated.
‘I can’t describe the anger at that moment. We could have lost because Young cheated. I know all about the criticism against Young in England, we know that in England these things are considered very bad and I think the incident is clear to see on TV.
‘He just brushed against me and fell to the ground.’
Whilst Moyes has publicly defended Young, it is believed that the manager is losing patience with the England international, with some papers claiming that Moyes is ready to tell Young he can leave, a rather harsh response to a player going down under contact even if it was minimal.
