Marouane Fellaini red card

David Moyes has admitted the Marouane Fellaini has been off the boil since signing for Manchester United, but has an idea why the £27.5m signing hasn’t quite lived up to expectation.

Fellaini joined United at the last minute from Everton, in a move that raised a number of eyebrows. After impressing in a cameo against Crystal Palace on his debut, Fellaini has failed to impress with an especially lacklustre performance in the Manchester derby.

Last time out against Real Sociedad, Fellaini saw red after committing a number of fouls and Moyes believes that the Belgian has simply been the victim of circumstance:

“I watched him playing and he looked a little bit behind.

“I had to put him in earlier than I’d have liked.

“I planned to put him in much slower to bring him on and give him a chance to settle in. But we put him in early because we needed it.

“I didn’t think he was quite ready then but I actually thought he played well in Sociedad.”

The slap dash nature of Fellaini’s move from Goodison Park meant it was always likely that the Belgian would take time to bed into the team.

New settings as well as new team mates, means patience is required if we are to see Fellaini get back to the form he displayed et Everton, as one of the league’s top performers.
