Khedira Injury

Manchester United’s transfer plans have been blown open after the German Football Association confirmed Sami Khedira has torn the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.

Khedira suffered the injury in last night’s game with Italy in Milan, and is now a doubt for the World Cup next summer.

Khedira was heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford and after United enquired about his availability during the summer, it was thought that Moyes would again attempt to sign the German especially with him expressing disillusionment about life at Madrid.

But the injury has put paid to the move, with Khedira having to undergo surgery, as well as lengthy rehab, to get back into a position to play.

German team doctor Hans-Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfahrt said:

“Sami has to be treated surgically, we have the hope that he will start the World Cup again is healthy.”

Whilst manager Joachim Loew added:

“This is a bitter blow for Sami and all of us.

“He is a very great fighter both on and off the pitch. He always thinks positive and this will help him, so I am optimistic that he will be fit in time for the kickoff of the World Cup in Brazil.

“We wish him all the best and keep our fingers crossed that the surgery goes well and he can quickly put into rehab. “
