David Moyes has his eye on Luke Shaw

David Moyes is set to kick January off with the £20m signing of Southampton’s Luke Shaw after finally putting to bed his pursuit of Everton’s Leighton Baines.

Shaw has long been a target for United but the 18 year old’s new contract at the start of the season was thought to have spelled the end of the Champions interest but The Telegraph believe United are ready to test the south coast team’s resolve with a bid of £20m.

Chelsea have reportedly earmarked him as the long term successor to Ashley Cole, bad news as Shaw is purported to be a Chelsea fan, meaning United may be forced to step up their interest in the England u21 international with a bid coming in January.

Moyes has focused on the left back position since taking over at Old Trafford, with 2 failed bids for Leighton Baines during the summer. With Everton insistent that Baines won’t be sold, United have had to look elsewhere and saw a move for Real Madrid’s Fabio Coentrao fall apart at the last minute during the summer too.

With Patrice Evra now 32 and the club apparently ready to listen to offers for Alex Buttner, a move for Shaw now makes sense.
