Marchisio is flattered to be linked with Man United

Manchester United have reportedly had a £20m bid for Juventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio rejected, despite the 27 year old seemingly being surplus to requirements.

United are in the hunt for new faces this January and whilst being linked with Arturo Vidal, The Express claim United have tabled a bid for his team mate Marchisio.

Marchisio is a product of Juventus’ academy but faces stern competition for playing time against the likes of Andrea Pirlo, Arturo Vidal, Paul Pogba and Kwadwo Asamoah. The Express claim that Marchisio may be sacrificed following Juventus’ exit from the Champions League as the Italian side look to offset financial shortcomings.

United were heavily linked with Marchisio during the summer but the Italian international admitted that whilst proud to be linked with United, he wasn’t thinking of a move to Old Trafford. Last month speaking to Juventus’ club channel he repeated this saying:

“I want to continue winning with this jersey, I have no intention to change.

“But every year, especially in summer, there have been rumours that involved me.

“In addition to this one, I have another two years on my deal with Juventus.

“I hope to play as long as possible with this jersey, it’s not my intention to change.”

And it appears that he will get his wish, but if United were to up their bid for the Italian international could Juventus be persuaded to part ways with the midfielder, given their great options?
