Juan Mata

Manchester United have made contact with Chelsea in the hope of signing out of favour Juan Mata according to The Daily Mirror.

Mata has found himself on the periphery of Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho’s plans this season after starring for the London club in the past 2 seasons.

The Spaniard’s father, who also acts as his agent, is said to have met with Chelsea officials seeking clarification on his son’s future only to be given no assurances of playing time.

With his future up in the air David Moyes could capitalise on the situation with the Mirror claiming United have made contact with Chelsea aiming to snap up the 25 year old for what would be a bargain £20m, despite Chelsea valuing him closer to £30m.

Chelsea would likely be reluctant to sell their former player of the year to United meaning Atletico Madrid could benefit, having been linked with a loan move for Mata.

United have been linked with Mata before; at the start of the season with Wayne Rooney on Mourinho’s radar, Mata was touted as a possible bargaining chip to entice United to part with the striker.
