David Moyes’ plans to bring in a central midfielder this month have taken a knock, after Porto’s Fernando opted to move to Man City ahead of United.
It was believed that the Portuguese passport holding Brazilian was set to join United this week, but Manuel Pellegrini has swooped in to pip rivals United to his signature.
Fernando was seen as a cheap option for Moyes given that his contract with Porto expires this summer, but the 26 year old is said to have agreed terms with City, in a move that has infuriated his club.
Portuguese journalist Goncalo Lopes has been giving updates on the situation via Twitter, saying:
Fernando has chosen Manchester City!

Not saying, repeat, not saying the deal is done. — Gonçalo Lopes (@_GoncaloLopes) January 29, 2014
City was trying him only for next season, in a free transfer deal, but they know there are other clubs interested. They saw an opportunity. — Gonçalo Lopes (@_GoncaloLopes) January 29, 2014
But it is 90% done.

Again. The agreement right now it’s only between Fernando and City. FC Porto pissed with the player and City.
