Manchester United’s injury crisis has been lessened with right back Rafael declaring himself fit for Tuesday’s Champions League clash with holders Bayern Munich.

The defender seemed to go off injured at half time during United’s 4-1 win over Aston Villa on Saturday and with Moyes already missing center backs Chris Smalling and Jonny Evans and left back Patrice Evra out injured, United would have been paper thin at the back.

But Rafael has declared himself fit for the game, stating his departure was only precautionary. The 23 year old said:

“I am OK. My thigh was a little bit tight. We just wanted to make sure I would be OK for Tuesday.”

Ahead of the clash, Rafael has also revealed that the game presents him with the chance for redemption after his red card in the pair’s last meeting, back in 2010, cost United the victory.

Rafael added:

“It’s on my mind still. I will never forget that. I played so good in the first half but then I got sent off like I did it was good learning for me. It cost United the match. It was a lot of help for Bayern when they play against 10 men. I learned from that.”
